The Explorers and Scouts met for a team challenge incident hike on Monday evening at Burbage Common. After being put into teams they were set several tasks whilst navigating a simple route. Each team had to navigate a section of the route by a compass bearing and map reference. The Explorers had a good night on Monday even though we were a bit low on numbers. They had been set the task of researching wood for fire lighting and had to prepare a short presentation with kindling then light a fire. Everyone who attended did a great job and everyone managed to light a fire. There were some novel ideas which we will use in future fire lighting activities and it was good to see the Explorers thinking outside the box.

Wood and Fire - Scout Skills The Cubs had a great night on Monday practising their fire lighting skills and learning about axe and saw skills. The cubs had to set and light a fire remembering everything they had been taught at previous meetings. They completed the task well ending with a well-lit fire good enough to cook some marshmallows on. They then learnt about the safety requirements of using an axe and then had a go at using a saw.
