The Scouts and Explorers spent the evening honing their square knots making survival bracelets. Some found it easier than others but once everyone had the hang of the basic knots things got allot easier.

Burns Night
Great evening spent celebrating the great Scottish bard ‘ Rabbie Burns’ plenty of Scottish bagpipes and address the haggis, neeps and tatties all round washed down by that famous Scottish drink …….. yes iron brew.

Personal Challenge - Birdwatch
Some great work done last night making the feeders to attract the birds into your gardens, now you just need to get them out to a suitable place that you can see from a window and wait for them to start coming. Next week a final game to help us identify the birds and then it’s up to you to do the birdwatch itself for 1 hour over the weekend of 29th to 31st Jan. Bring your results back after the weekend (I will give out a sheet next week) and then its the leader set challenge

Winter Skills Camp - John Lees Wood
Well what a weekend the Scouts and Explorers had at John Lees Wood Campsite. Who would have thought they would be camping in the snow!! What an experience... Everyone had a great time and coped well with the weather conditions. We even managed a mini expedition on Saturday with a ring walk around the Bradgate and Swithland areas. Very. very windy on the top of Old John. Some really good skills put to the test with the weather conditions especially navigation and rescue exerci

Cubs District Shooting Competition
Well done to those Cubs who took part in the shooting today. The guns were a little bit too big for the smaller Cubs but you all did really well for a first time attempt especially Archie who appears to be a bit of a natural at this with nearly all his shots in the black zones. Bring on the Scouts shooting competition next year I’m sure Skip will have you all well drilled.

Remembrance Parade
Once again 1st Hinckley Group attended the Hinckley Remembrance Parade. We had a good turn out and the rain managed to hold off for the most part. Thank you to those who attended.

Bonfire Night
A cold night but the weather held and we were able to have a good fire at the back of the Scout Den. Sausages and of course the obligatory toasted marshmallows. Some good fire lighting skills on display and some add hock singing made it a good evening around the fire.

Spooky Night
The Scouts and Explorers joined together for a night of fun and games with a spooky theme. Lots of games and activities including practicing their knife skills with the pumpkin carving competition.

Fire Station Visit
The Beavers had a great time at Hinckley Fire Station learning about the job of the Fire Fighters.
